Israeli lawmakers approve a bill that strengthens the Jewish character of Israel


Avi Dichter, a Deputy from the ruling right-wing Likud party, the sponsor of the Bill, the project supported 48 deputies against 41 opposed it (out of 120).

It is supposed to submit the Bill to a vote in Parliament by three additional readings before becoming part of the “Basic Law”.

If the Bill it would give special status to a “Jewish and democratic” for Israel and the Jewish calendar and the Hebrew language as an official language in Israel.

There are in Israel nearly 1.4 million Arabs, accounting for 17.5% of Israel’s population and complain of discrimination, especially in jobs and housing.

Define raised Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish people many concerns among human rights organizations which had expressed concern about the discrimination that might harm the Arabs and additional attempts to confuse religion and State.
